Our Renovations Take Forever
Over the weekend we decided to do a “quick update” on our main floor powder room. Those of you who are home owners probably know very well by now that no home renovations are ever completed quickly. Why do I not learn?!
Here’s what we wanted to do:
– Paint walls
– Replace towel bar
– Replace toilet paper holder
– Replace mirror
– Replace light fixture
Here’s how far we got:
Why? Because builders suck. Apparently they thought it was a good idea to install the original towel bar and toilet paper holder by cutting holes in the drywall then shoving a bunch of paper and putty in the hole to keep these things on the wall. So removing them created GIANT holes in our walls. Ugh.
This meant that instead of a minor repair with a bit of putty, Rich had to drive to TWO hardware stores to find drywall patches that were big enough, and here we are 3 days later still doing coats of putty and sanding.
This is why our renovations take forever. Nothing is ever simple.
In all seriousness, I forgot to take “before” shots so here are the in-progress pics. We replaced the toilets in the whole house when we moved in because they were still the originals and the tanks were MASSIVE so they actually took about 15 minutes to refill the bowl after a flush. Talk about crazy water bills. Everything else is original to the house except I think the previous owners tried to jazz up the place by spray painting the light fixture.
This is a small room that gets a lot of traffic so we are hoping some fresh paint (and fresh everything) will liven it up a little bit!
